Church at Three Rivers has begun a new initiative that will equip and train current and future pastors and church planters. The Academy has four levels that will be offered throughout the year. While each level builds on the previous one, they may be taken out of order. There are no prerequisites. 

Level 100: Introduction

Length: 1 Day
Location: Ethnê House

 

Sessions include: 

 

"Church Health & Multiplication: God's Purpose, Our Mission"

An examination of the place of the church in God's eternal purposes. Developing a biblical theology of the church. 

 

"The Church in West Virginia: Nearly Hell, Almost Heaven"

What is the spiritual climate of WV? What is the current status of evangelical churches in WV? What is unique to ministry in Appalachian culture?

 

"Baptist Cooperation: Partnering for Mission"
Baptist distinctives of congregationalism and cooperation. 
Southern Baptist history and current strategies.
Explanation of Southern Baptist entities and state conventions.

 

"Church Planters: Overseers, Elders & Shepherds"

What does it mean to be a "church planter?" What's involved? Do you need to be "called" to it? What education is needed? What leadership qualities are necessary?

 

"Next Steps: Where do I go from Here?"

In light of this course, what's next? What additional training opportunities are there for me? What churches, organization or partnerships should I be aware of? How can I learn more?

An overview of the continuity and discontinuity between the mission of God, the mission of the Church and the mission of Christians and why it matters to how we do church.

 

"Our Church is not Your Church: Avoiding the cookie cutter pressure to copy ‘successful churches.’"

A study of recent church fads and models, concluding with an encouragement for a thoughtful, contextualized approach to church health and multiplication.

 

"Developing Your Plan: Make your vision tangible, readable, and supportable."

Clarifying, condensing and critiquing the ideas in your head and communicating them coherently through visual and verbal mediums. Learning how to creatively present your vision in a digestible format.

 

"Assembling a Team: Recruiting, training and empowering."

How to recognize and appreciate various personalities. How to handle conflict resolution and growing pains.

 

"Creating a Community Profile"

How to do research in order to identify demographics, idols and the status of Christianity in your town.

 

"Teamwork Technology: Utilizing technology for productivity, accountability and collaboration."

Demonstrating multiple programs such as: Asana, Planning Center and Proclaim.

 

"Prayer in the Life of a Church: Depending on God in the good times and bad."

How to implement prayer strategies in your planning, meetings and worship gatherings
